إشتهر اللبنانيون (وأهل المشرق العربي عموماً) بكثرة تندرهم و استعمالهم للأمثال و المقولات في كلامهم.  قلة من الناس لا تستعمل الأمثال عند اثبات وجهة نظر أو عند النقاش (وما ابرع اللبنانيين فيه)..

A French history teacher once told me "le Liban ne sera jamais un etat-patrie" (Lebanon well never be a homeland state), and I sadly believe this is the single truest statement I have ever heard about Lebanon. I had hoped at that time, some 12 years ago, that we would prove her wrong. To this day I fail to see us do that.

بمناسبة رأس السنة، أحب أبو الزلف أن يطل عليكم بتوقعاته لعام 2011 (ما حدا أحسن من حدا)، يرجى عدم المحارجة نهاية العام القادم بخصوص صحة هذة التوقعات – شو جايين تحاسبوني على الكلمة؟؟ شيه!

طيب، نبدأ التوقعات بالسياسة:

·         يتعرض الوسط السياسي لخضة كبيرة عند اختفاء أحد الزعماء الذي يعود ليظهر على هيئة المسيح الدجال

·         يتم حل ملف شهود الزور بعد الاستعانة بمختار الضيعة

·         تندلع حرب ضروس بين لبنان و إسرائيل عند إكتشاف شبكة قرصنة إسرائيلية لأقراص الفلافل اللبنانية

·         تتفاقم القضية لتطال رؤوساً كبيرة أهمها فلافل صهيون

·         المقاومة تدهش العالم عند تدميرها سفينة إسرائيلية محملة بالطرطور قبالة ميناء حيفا، ومجاعة  في كيان العدو

·         الرئيس الأميركي باراك أوباما يعلن مبادرة للسلام بمساعدة مصر التي توزع الطعمية على طرفي النزاع كمبادرة حسن نية

أما في الاقتصاد والأمور المعيشية:

·         يصاب كافة المواطنين اللبنانيين بالدهشة حين " ترجع الليرة تحكي" متوجهةً إليهم بعبارات نابية

·         شركة المرسيدس تعلن إعادة إنتاج سيارة ال 200 قطش لاستبدال سيارات الأجرة اللبنانية ونقيب السائقين العموميين عبد الأمير نجدي يشيد بالخطوة البناءة

·         شركة كهرباء لبنان تعلن إعفاء المواطنين من تسديد الفواتير "بالمرة" لأنهم "هيك هيك عم يعلقوا"

·         تلزيم شركة سويسرية بتحويل مكب صيدا إلى منتجع تزلج بعد وصول علوه إلى 600 متر وسط ترحيب العالم الكوول اللذين سيتمكنون من التزلج في ثياب السباحة

في الطب والعلوم:

·         عالم لبناني ينجح في توليد الكهرباء من شرش الزلوع

·         أطباء لبنانيون يكتشفون أن أكل الهواء بكميات معتدلة يقلل من مخاطر الإصابة بسرطان المريء

·         المجتمع الطبي العالمي يثبت بعد طول انتظار أن العدس هو فعلاً مسامير الركب

فن و مجتمع:

·         الفنان أبو وديع الصافي يتسبب بهزة أرضية بقوة 7.2 على مقياس ريختر عند طرحه ألبوماً جديداً في الأسواق

The Unexpected

It was December 16th.
Here I was, spending what I like to call "Rabih Time", cruising in the car to clear my head, when I found myself in Zouk Mikael. Zouk has a special place in my heart, I just love its basalt pathways, its stone walls, its wooden doors, its flowery stairways, and that restaurant overseeing the bay of Jounieh with a fountain in the middle (I can't seem to remember its name) where an older man greets you with a friendly smile and invites you in..
Of course, I had my camera on standby and was able to capture some photos of this wonderful place, some which I will share with you as usual (click here to see them)..
It's not what this post is about though.. this post is about the unexpected in life. You see, on that particular day the most unexpected thing happened to me when I came back from Zouk, and I'm grateful it happened.. Only one person in the world other than myself knows what exactly that is, here's to the person who knows :)
My point is, sometimes you plan too much and what really happens is the unexpected. I have come to love throwing plans to the wind and letting life take its course.
Sometimes destiny wants to be in the driver's seat, just relax, go with the flow, and enjoy the ride.. The result could be better than anything you'd ever planned for..

Shooting in Lebanon!

Whoa! It's been like a month or so since I've posted anything here, this is because I've been extremely busy with a couple of things.
I finally found a chance to sit at home and do absolutely nothing, which means a new blog post :D I think I'll have to thank the weather for that.
The title of the post might give you the idea to go and stock up on canned foods and candles but no, nobody is going to shoot anybody (at least I hope so!). The only shooting I'm talking about is with that "real camera" I've been talking about for ages, which I finally got two weeks ago after a long long research on many forums (and annoying the hell out of my friends). I think I'm really getting into this thing, photography is awesome, I still have a whole lot to learn tough!

I was planning to go to Byblos and Batroun this weekend to shoot more before it started raining cats and dogs so for now I'll stick with these pictures :)

Beautiful Sunday: Tourist in my own country

Nothing beats going out on a quiet Sunday to enjoy the beautiful weather and the scenery, especially when you live in Beirut. This sunday I spent the nicest day with my friend, it turned out we both have the same passion for nature (to put it in her words "tnaynetna 3anna nafs el washeh") and we came up with these pictures.

These were taken from El Maaisra, Kesrwan and Jbeil.

I REEEAAALY need to get myself a camera (this was taken using a cell phone) which I will this week hopefully (men koun abadna :D ).

I hope you enjoy the pictures like I enjoyed taking them (and everything else for that matter)!

Abou El Zelof Unveils His Musical Talents

This is something I recorded at home yesterday (hence the quality), I composed this song a while ago and I would like to share it with you, al jamaheer al 3aziza!

بيروت أوّل شتوة

Beirut.. My city.

The corniche, this stretch of sidewalk that shared so many laughs, so many tears, so many kisses, so many sighs, so many smokes, and so many memories with me. The corniche is my ever loyal friend who listens to me without interruption and who gives me advice (every bit of Beirut is a living creature, i won't refer to her as "it"). I used to hate it when it rained but now rain has a certain meaning to me, and yesterday the corniche was ever so glamourous and calm after the first rainfall - أوّل شتوة. I managed to take a few pictures with my phone camera that I would like to share with you as is, no retouching or anything. Enjoy!

This made me realize that I need to get myself a real camera (yel3an hanh badde zabbit el exposure!). Please feel free to leave me your suggestions for a capable but not too complicated camera.

I was thinking about it today. Why do we (men) like a woman's hair so much? Come to think of it, the effect these strands have when they go down the shoulders of a beautiful woman is fascinating, considering it's just hair. Ziad El Rahbani once noted this: when hair is on the shoulders of a woman it's something you want to twirl, smell and kiss (ok maybe not as it will end up between your teeth, not good), but should - God forbid - one hair of the same locks you were stroking / twirling / petting just moments earlier ends up on your table or in your soup it's the end of the world! It's a bit ironic isn't it?

  A Woman's Crown and Glory   

For me, long hair is the ultimate expression of femininity and sensuality. Nothing is sexier than running your hand into a woman's beautiful wavy locks (provided she hasn't ruined them with hairspray or any similar crap) to reveal her cheeks and neck. It's like a gift, would you want your gift without the excitement of unwrapping it in anticipation (especially when the wrapper smells so good)? It's just not the same. I find it similar with women with short hair, they've just taken away the joy of unwrapping the gorgeous gift. I think any man would agree that we'd prefer reaching out and finding real hair rather than some spiky hairdo. If I wanted to play with short hair I'd play with my own! Here's where I address the females (jens 7awwa) directly. Ladies please do not screw up your hair,don't cut it too short, don't dye it in all sorts of colors, don't bleach it, don't glue it, don't experiment too much with it, burn it, and abuse it. WE DON'T LIKE THAT! Take care of it and let it flow like the wild creature it is.. Thank you.
